The Region of Waterloo Library is offering a new resource for families navigating a dementia diagnosis. On Thursday, the library announced the Cognitive Care Kit collection. It can help families with loved ones who are living with dementia, memory loss or other cognitive decline. The kit includes tools, such as puzzles, games, books and sensory activities that encourage people living with dementia to interact, manipulate, sort and organize objects. The aim is to spark memories and encourage conversations with family members and friends. It also includes ‘a caregiver’s guide to dementia.’ At launch, the Region of Waterloo is offering 12 kits – six for people in the early to mid stages of dementia and six others for people with mid- to late-stage symptoms. The kits are available at branches of the Region of Waterloo Library.
