Police seize $29K in psilocybin from FunGuyz store in Brantford

Brantford Police seized $29,674 in psilocybin products from a FunGuyz store on Wednesday.

An investigation into the illegal mushroom dispensary was launched on June 18.

Police said that was when they learned the shop on Murray Street had reopened after previously being shut down.

They did not identify the store in Friday’s media release.

A search of the business resulted the seizure of 2596.5 grams of psilocybin, with an estimated street value of $29,674.

Police said they arrested a 28-year-old man from Hamilton. He was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Other incidents

It has been an eventful year for the FunGuyz location on Murray Street.

On May 13, multiple gunshots were fired into the front of the store around 2 a.m. No one was hurt.

A person living next door to the dispensary also said someone broke into the building a few months earlier.

“We have been in Brantford almost a year now,” the manager, who did not want to be identified, told CTV News on May 13. “We haven’t had any issues, no upset customers, everyone loves us there.”
