Police officer hit by vehicle during drug investigation arrest in Cambridge

Cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and a homemade conducted energy weapon, commonly referred to as a ‘Taser’, were seized as part of a drug trafficking investigation in Cambridge.

On Feb. 4, Waterloo Regional Police Service officers saw two men meet in a Preston parking lot for a suspected drug transaction. One of the men was driving a Cadillac.

When officers approached the vehicle to arrest the pair, the driver reversed the Cadillac and hit an officer and a police cruiser. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Both suspects were arrested.

The Cadillac, a knife, cash and drugs, including suspected cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, were seized.

After the arrests were made, police searched homes in Kitchener and Cambridge, leading to the discovery of one kilogram of cocaine, 440 grams of methamphetamine, two grams of fentanyl, a homemade conducted energy weapon and more than $11,000 in cash.

A 43-year-old from Cambridge has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A 59-year-old man from Kitchener has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, assault police with a weapon and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
