One person in hospital after shooting in Kitchener

CTV’s Alexandra Holyk has the latest as police search for suspects involved in an overnight shooting.

A 44-year-old man from Waterloo is recovering after he was shot early Wednesday morning in Kitchener.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to Lancaster Street West, near the former Forwell Super Variety store, at around 2:15 a.m.

Officers found the victim, who was then taken by paramedics to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the incident was a targeted shooting.

“There was an altercation that took place at a business on Lancaster Street and, as a result of the altercation, the shooting took place,” WRPS Inspector Kyle Lambert later told reporters at a press conference. “We’re looking for a number of suspects who fled the area.”

Those descriptions have not been shared at this time.

“We’re still doing witness interviews and interviews with the victim,” Lambert said.

A canine unit was also brought in to canvass the area for the weapon, but nothing was found.

Police said Wednesday’s incident is the fourth shooting in Waterloo Region this year and only the second resulting in injury.
