Music teacher from Guelph to perform at World Series opening game

A music teacher from Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph, Ont. is undoubtedly feeling “Happy” ahead of Fridays’ opening game of the World Series in Toronto.

According to a news release from the Upper Grand District School Board, Eric Froats will be a section leader for the visual presentation accompanying a preshow by Pharrell Williams. A section leader is responsible for the music and marching performance of a specific group in a marching band.

Froats is a former sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and has more than 30 years of experience in marching drumming. He’s been a music teacher at the Guelph school for at least 11 years.

Williams will be performing alongside a Virginia-formed gospel group known as Voices of Fire before the Toronto Blue Jays and L.A. Dodgers go head-to-head in Game 1.

“It is going to be a great learning experience to perform in such a large production,” Froats said. “Just to see how they organize it, and how they put all the moving parts together.”

The first game in the seven-game series begins at 8 p.m. Friday.
