Man found murdered in Kitchener apartment

One person has been arrested after police found a man dead in a Kitchener apartment. CTV’s Heather Senoran has the latest.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating their first homicide of 2025.

Officers were called to do a wellness check around 9:30 a.m. Monday at a low-rise apartment building at the corner of Cameron Street North and Weber Street East.

They said a man was found dead inside one of the units.

Police described his injuries as “significant.”

“We are now investigating this as a homicide,” said WRPS Insp. Kyle Lambert. “We do have a female in custody in relation to this incident. We believe that the deceased and this female were known to one another.”

Police called it a targeted incident.

They did not release the man’s name or his cause of death. It’s also not known if he lived in the apartment.

No word yet on any charges for the accused.

Neighbours, meanwhile, were shocked by the news.

“It’s little disturbing to know that there was a death in the area,” said one woman. “I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of anything like that happening in our downtown area before.”

“Definitely not common,” her husband added.

Police said neighbours will see a large police presence in the area on Monday and possibly Tuesday.
