Four people charged for driving around road closed signs on Highway 6

Multiple drivers are learning a hard lesson about obeying road closed signs.

The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police said four drivers were charged after they drove around clearly marked signage while officers were responding to collisions along Highway 6 on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23. One of those crashes, between Sideroad 18 and Jones Baseline outside of Arthur, involved six vehicles.

A 70-year-old from Mount Forest, a 23-year-old from Cambridge, a 28-year-old from Fergus and a 22-year-old from Mount Forest were charged with driving on a closed highway. They all face a $110 fine and three demerit points.

Police said if a driver is involved in a collision after disobeying a closed road sign, any insurance claims they make may be denied.
