Foodland announces shuttle bus for Seaforth residents

Rebuilding the Foodland grocery store destroyed by fire last weekend in Seaforth will take some time, but the company says it’s making efforts to ensure shoppers aren’t left without access to groceries.

Foodland has announced a twice-weekly shuttle bus service between Seaforth and the Foodland store in Clinton.

The shuttle will run on Tuesday and Thursdays, beginning this Thursday, with a 9 a.m. pickup and 11 a.m. dropoff at the Seaforth Legion.

Foodland was the only grocery store in Seaforth. Once that store burned down, residents were left with the prospect of a 20-kilometre trek to Clinton or Mitchell as the closest option for groceries.

In a press release, Seaforth store owner Steve Delchairo says employees will be compensated during the “temporary” closure of the store.

“We have been so touched with the overwhelming support the Seaforth community has shown the Foodland team, my family and I during this difficult time,” he says.

Seaforth’s arena has been suggested as a possible temporary location for the grocery store, but parents are concerned about the effect that would have on minor sports.
