Fake shooting reported at Cambridge home

Waterloo Regional Police say an alleged shooting at a Cambridge home turned out to be a prank.

First responders were called to Eagle Street North and Concession Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said officers found no evidence of a shooting.

“It was determined that the reported incident had not occurred and was classified as public mischief,” a media release stated.

Police are not specifically calling it a swatting incident, but it is similar to other recent reports in Waterloo Region.

Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener was locked down for several hours on March 9 after police were told a person with a gun was inside the high school. Police later determined it was a swatting call.

A shooting was also reported at a Kitchener home on March 6. That too was determined to be a prank.

On Feb. 13, someone called in a shooting at a Kitchener home and, shortly after, a second incident was reported at a nearby residence. Police said both of those turned out to be unfounded.

Swatting refers to a fake emergency call to elicit a significant response from first responders.
