Orillia OPP have made an arrest in connection with hate speech motivated flyers found in Orillia. Police say an investigation began on May 17 after hate speech flyers were discovered throughout the City of Orillia. A second occurrence involving similar details was also reported on June 13. According to OPP, officers were called to the Barrie Road and Walker Avenue area around 3:00 a.m. on June 21 for a suspicious person. The person of interest was described as wearing all black clothing and placing flyers onto cars while trying to enter them. Police quickly arrived on scene, located the person and as a result of an investigation, a 15-year-old from Orillia now faces charges from all three occurrences including mischief, public incitement of hatred, fail to comply with sentence, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing as the investigation continues. Police will not release the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
