Residents across Supportive Housing of Waterloo’s (SHOW) network came together Saturday afternoon for a BBQ to celebrate the announcement of a new 10-unit modular housing development at their 362 Erb Street West location. The housing development is the first of its in Waterloo as all future residents being older adults who have or are currently experiencing housing insecurity. The project will be made possible by over $3 million in funding from the City of Waterloo, the Region of Waterloo and fundraising, with possible federal funding in the works. This will be the latest development from SHOW, who have multiple other properties throughout Waterloo meant as permanent housing for older adults. SHOW is still in the middle of their fundraising campaign for the units, leaving construction and completion dates up in the air, which could be spurred on by the ongoing water shortage in Waterloo Region, affecting developers ability to complete projects. While funding is still incomplete, SHOW is hoping to break ground on the project in fall, with a holiday wish to have the unit welcoming residents before Christmas.
