Delays likely to impact GO Train riders on Tuesday

GO Transit riders can expect delays on Tuesday along the Kitchener line and beyond because of a train derailment. CTV's Alexandra Holyk has the details.

Anyone who takes the GO Train along the Kitchener Line as part of their regular commute may want to make contingency plans for Tuesday morning.

On Monday morning, a train derailed as it left Union Station, causing persistent delays across several routes throughout the day. Some trains were delayed by more than two hours. As of 9:07 p.m. Monday, track teams were still trying to safely remove the derailed train.

“We are currently unable to provide exact train departure times,” a service update from GO Transit read. “Trains will operate as soon as they are able and within our normal service limits. We are running service on all lines we normally operate, but trains may not depart at their usual intervals.”

On Monday night, some weary passengers finally arrived at Kitchener’s GO Station just after 7 p.m. – almost an hour after the train was originally scheduled to arrive.

“We left around 6 p.m. or something,” one passenger told CTV News as they stepped onto the platform. “Then we had to wait over 40 to 50 minutes at Union Station. Just waiting inside the train.”

In an email to CTV News on Monday night, Metrolinx, the company responsible for GO Transit, confirmed there would still be delays across the network on Tuesday.
