Cold temperatures continue across Waterloo Region with minus 30 wind chill

Amid frigid temperatures in Waterloo Region and surrounding areas, Environment Canada has issued a yellow cold warning.

The weather agency’s alert warns of wind chills reaching minus 30 degrees to minus 35 degrees.

The cold is expected to be felt the most Sunday evening into Monday morning.

Waterloo Region, Stratford and Guelph are all included in the warning.

Environment Canada is reminding that the extreme cold puts everyone at risk, but the risks are greater for young children, older adults, as well as people without proper shelter.

Cold-related symptoms can include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness and numbness and colour change in fingers or toes.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill so people are being advised to dress warmly and cover up.

It’s also being reminded that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pets to stay outside.
