It may be the thick of summer, but a Christmas-themed phishing scam is already targeting small business owners in Cambridge. The city put out a notice on Tuesday, warning of a phishing scam where the sender claims to represent the Christmas Holiday Market. “The City of Cambridge would never use unofficial channels to contact residents,” the notice said. “Please note, the only way to apply is through the official link on the City of Cambridge website.” The Waterloo Regional Police Service has been notified of the scam. An email phishing scam urges recipients to click on a malicious link or share sensitive information with the sender who is usually posing as a legitimate organization.
