Brantford Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the city. They said it happened around 8:15 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Erie Avenue and Gladstone Avenue. “Our officers responded to a wellbeing check, which was later established to be a person involved in a shooting,” said Const. Adil Khalqi. The victim, only identified as a Brantford man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the shooter took off before officers arrived. “We did manage to locate a suspect and took a person into custody,” Khalqi said. “The investigation is ongoing to determine the charges that will be laid.” No further details were shared about the person police arrested or any possible motive for the shooting. “Our Major Crime Unit and Criminal Investigations section are collectively working together to ensure that the investigation is done thoroughly to determine what happened, what transpired, put all the pieces of the puzzle together and find a solution as to what happens next,” Khalqi explained. Police said officers will continue to canvass the Eagle Place neighbourhood for anyone who witnessed the shooting or what led up to it.
