Attempted murder charges laid in Brantford robbery and shooting investigation

Brantford Police are investigating a violent robbery that left three people seriously hurt. Tyler Kelaher has more.

A second person is facing a long list of charges after a robbery and shooting in Brantford last month.

On Wednesday, the Brantford Police Service confirmed an 18-year-old man from Mississauga was arrested on Monday.

His charges include two counts of attempted murder, pointing a firearm, robbery with a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, disguise with intent, careless use of a firearm, weapon, and ammunition, discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and flight from police.

The charges come weeks after two people were shot and a third person was assaulted during a robbery on Jan. 22. It happened in the Colborne Street and Alfred Street area around 5:30 p.m.

All three victims had serious injuries.

Although police have not specifically said where the incident happened, police tape cordoned off a shop called Downtown Pawnbrokers on the night of the robbery. The shop was also closed the next day.

On the night of the shooting, one person was taken into custody.

In Wednesday’s release, police confirm that person is a 21-year-old man from Dundalk. They said he was arrested after he tried to run away from a stolen vehicle. A canine team was called in to track him down.

The Dundalk man faces the same long list of charges.

Investigators said this is still an active investigation.
