Residents displaced following Kitchener townhouse fire

Two children and one adult were treated for smoke inhalation following a townhouse fire on Green Valley Drive in Kitchener Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to 15 Green Valley Drive around 12 p.m. after smoke detectors alerted residents to a fire that began in the kitchen of a two-storey unit. The residents called 911 and were able to get out.

Firefighters from Station 6, located just minutes away on Pioneer Drive, responded quickly with a full complement of crews. The fire was brought under control, but damage is estimated at $300,000.

“No foul play is suspected,” a City of Kitchener media release read in part. “The fire was quickly contained to the first floor and front exterior...the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been notified.”

According to officials, there are no structural concerns with the property at this time.

The unit’s occupants have been displaced, and the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
