Ice District to host annual all-skill-level ball hockey tournament in August

Hockey season never dies in Ice District, especially with the third-annual return of a youth ball hockey tournament that welcomes all skill levels.

The Ice District Classic ball hockey tournament is just under a month away, but player spots are already filling up fast.

The 3-on-3 tournament in Fan Park runs from Aug. 8 to 10 and features NHL-sized boards with gates and netting, Oilers alumni, giveaways and merchandise.

A line-up of food trucks will also be ready for hungry spectators, who get in for free.

The tournament is a partnership between the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF), Oilers alumni and BHE1 Sports. It runs as part of OEG’s 2025 Summer SolstICE series.

In a release on Wednesday, executive director of EOCF Myrna Khan said the addition of Fan Park has been integral to hosting free events and “community activations.”

“Events like the Ice District Classic and other similar programs empower kids and other youth, and help them unlock their full potential through the power of sport, play, community and belonging,” she said.

There are only a few entry spots left for youth and women’s ball hockey teams who want to register. Individual sign-ups are also available.

Each team consists of 10 players and all skill levels are welcome to join.
