Teen driver intentionally hit Alberta high school: RCMP

A teen has been charged after a vehicle hit an Alberta high school last week.

Emergency crews were called to Harry Collinge High School in Hinton at 2:55 p.m. on Friday.

The school was evacuated, and the teen boy driving the vehicle was taken to hospital for evaluation.

No one else was injured.

Mounties say the driver intentionally hit the school, and he was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and mischief over $5,000.

“We understand that there has been some concern within the community in relation to this incident,” Sgt. Mills of the Hinton RCMP said in a news release.

“We want everyone to know that we are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident. Furthermore, the school board has been involved every step of the way and is taking measures to support students, staff and families affected by this incident.”

The suspect was released on conditions, and is set to appear in court in Hinton on Oct. 15.
