Saskatchewan experienced a staggering 18 tornadoes over the course of two days earlier this month, researchers say. New confirmations released Thursday from the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) bumped the number of funnel clouds witnessed from July 10-11 up to 18 in total. Previously, five were confirmed. NTP data shows 11 funnel clouds touched down on July 10 – while seven touched down on July 11. All the tornadoes reported ranged in strength from EF0 to EF1. A downburst, which consists of a strong and sudden down draft of wind, was also reported on July 10. There have been five downbursts reported so far this year in Saskatchewan. As of July 23, NTP reports a total of 34 confirmed tornadoes in Saskatchewan, flying past the province’s record of 25 set in 2022 since the NTP began compiling data in 2017.
