Winter wonderland continues to grow and wow visitors

A property in Leduc County is transformed into a winter wonderland each year.

A property in Leduc County continues to amaze thousands of visitors and ignite the Christmas spirit.

“Magical,” said visitor Darlene Morin. “It just gets you in the Christmas spirit. It’s just beautiful.”

Yvonne and Doug Ruel are the couple behind the elaborate light display.

“He's always decorated. Wherever we've lived he's always put the lights up. But it just got out of hand here now,” said Yvonne.

For about a decade, the couple has lit up their lawn each year, inviting the public to walk through and bring a donation to the Leduc Food Bank.

“I think the lights are absolutely outstanding,” said visitor Colton Glubish.

“There isn't one tree that doesn't have lights on it,” said visitor Danielle Boyle. “There are lights everywhere you look.”

The Ruels estimate between eight and ten thousand people drop by their property every night on the weekends.

More than 27,000 kilograms of food and $19,000 was donated to the Leduc Food Bank last year. This year is expected to be the biggest year to date.

Volunteers help to control traffic, sort donations and serve hot chocolate.

“In general, we could be up to 18 to 20 people each night and I think we have a phenomenal group (of volunteers)," said Yvonne.

The property is open seven days a week until January 3, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
