Two identified as deceased in house fire near Castor

CTV Edmonton: Two identified in fatal Castor fire RCMP have identified two individuals killed in a house fire near Castor, Alberta, and say they are suspicious.

RCMP said investigators have confirmed the identities of two people, whose remains were found in what was left after a house was destroyed in a fire near Castor, Alberta.

Police said Monday that the Calgary Medical Examiner had confirmed the identities of the remains of two people found in the fire: they were identified as Gordon Klaus, 61, and Monica Klaus, 40.

The remains of Gordon Klaus’ wife, Sandra, have not been accounted for, police said.

The investigation started after emergency crews were called to the farmhouse, located just outside of Castor, Alberta, early Sunday, December 8.

Witnesses told CTV News the home was fully engulfed at about 6:30 a.m. that day.

It took investigators several days to gain access to the scene, as several days passed before the fire was declared out.

On December 16, police said human remains had been found in what was left of the home – although it wasn’t clear how many sets of remains were found at the time.

The deaths are being treated as suspicious – and RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
