Retro robbery: Thieves steal vintage safe in rural Alberta

RCMP are investigating the theft of a vintage safe from a home in Stony Plain on May 1.

Thieves went old school earlier this month in an Alberta town near Edmonton.

RCMP in Parkland County, immediately west of the provincial capital, said Wednesday in a media release that they received a report on May 1 of a stolen antique safe from a home in Stony Plain.

According to police, a witness saw the 1,000-lb. Winnipeg Safeworks-brand strongbox being loaded onto a trailer on April 27 or 28 by a dark-coloured truck using a winch from a home near 52 Avenue. Police didn’t say whether any heavies were spotted at the scene.
