The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) has opened applications for the 2026 Young Composers Project. Students from grades 10 to 12 who are passionate in writing music can apply. The selected student will be mentored with renowned Canadian composer John Estachio, ESO said on Wednesday. With guidance, the student will compose a new piece for the orchestra and hear it performed live in front of an audience. “Guiding them through the process and hearing their music performed by the ESO is an incredibly rewarding experience,” Estachio said. • The information you need to know, sent directly to you: Download the CTV News App The student will also receive a $1,250 bursary. “This program offers a rare and meaningful experience for young artists,” said Anne-Marie Switzer, director of musical creativity. “It’s a chance to be mentored by a professional composer and to experience the thrill of hearing your music performed by a full symphony orchestra.” Open to high school students, those interested in applying will submit three original pieces written for live performance.
