Looking for a book to read, but can’t make it to your nearest library branch? A new miniature library has popped up at a park in our region that could be just the thing for you. The Barrie Public Library has installed what it calls a “Little Free Library” at Golden Meadow Park at the end of September. Residents can take a book to read or drop off a book they’d like to share with someone else. The library says staff will check in on the little library from time to time, but they’re hoping the community will make it their own. The only other Little Free Library location is at Sunnidale Park. The library says the other two that were installed at Eastview Community Park and Lampman Lane Park were vandalized and are currently out of service. “While they don’t replace a library branch, Little Free Libraries help extend the reach of library services into neighbourhoods, fostering literacy, curiosity, and community connection one book at a time,” the library states on its website. The pilot project began at the beginning of the summer so the library could explore future branch locations and make books and reading accessible to even more parts of the city.
