One dead, one arrested following Henday crash: EPS

A 23-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she drove the wrong way on Anthony Henday Drive – causing another vehicle to slam into a light post.

A 23-year-old man is dead after his car crashed into a light post and caught fire early Saturday morning on Anthony Henday Drive, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say.

Around 1:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a Chevrolet Cruze that had crashed on the southbound portion of Henday Drive near the highway 14 overpass.

Police said witnesses to the crash pulled the driver out of the car and attempted lifesaving measures. He died on scene.

EPS also received reports of a suspected second vehicle that had been seen driving the wrong way, north in the southbound lanes, that they believed may have caused the crash.

A 23-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Cavalier was found by Strathcona County RCMP near Sherwood Park Freeway and arrested.

She now faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.
