Oilers bring back ‘Pets of Oil Country’ 50/50 raffle in support of local shelters

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation announced the return of their “Pets of Oil Country” 50/50 raffle.

The raffle supports the Edmonton Humane Society, Dogs with Wings and Parachutes for Pets by helping animals in need find homes across Northern Alberta and making sure assistance dogs can continue providing support for those who rely on them.

“In Oil Country, pets are family,” said Myrna Khan, the executive director of the Foundation in a press release Wednesday. “That’s why we’re committed to caring not only for people in need, but for pets as well. Our pets stand by us every day with unconditional love and companionship, and we believe it’s just as important to stand by them in return.”

The Edmonton Humane Society cares for homeless, abandoned and neglected animals while they’re on their journey to find a forever home.

“This meaningful contribution allows us to build on our work supporting animals in need across our community. With the continued partnership of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, we’re creating lasting, positive change for both people and pets,” said Liza Sunley, CEO of the Edmonton Humane Society.

Dogs with Wings provides highly trained assistance dogs to people and service agencies for those in need.

“The impact of the EOCF support runs through all we do in our programs for our dogs and clients,” said Amanda Dubé, CEO of Dogs with Wings. “From working with partners to change lives, to offering quiet support in difficult moments, DWW is committed to ensuring we are utilizing these resources to transform lives, one moment at a time.”

Parachutes for Pets provides emergency pet food, temporary safekeeping and offers youth and seniors to benefit from animal assisted therapy.

“We’re grateful to partner with Oil Country to strengthen mental health and community wellbeing through animal-assisted support and pet retention programs,” said Melissa David, the executive director of Parachutes for Pets.

This raffle features special prizes including signed merchandise, concert tickets and even a Boots and Hearts West VIP ticket package.

Oilers fans are also invited to share photos of their own pets through a contest the Foundation is running on its Instagram and X accounts, for a chance to win two tickets to the Oilers game April 2, along with a stick signed by the team.
