Mechanic arrested for chop shop, vehicle theft near Lloydminster: RCMP

Police say they have made an arrest in relation to a chop shop in Kitscoty, Alta., about 20 kilometres west of Lloydminster.

Kitscoty Mounties received a report on May 27 of stolen truck parts being sold on Facebook Marketplace.

With assistance from the Lloydminster investigation unit, and Alberta RCMP’s eastern crime reduction unit, officers conducted an investigation resulting in the search of a local mechanic shop in the Kitscoty area.

RCMP say the suspect was stealing vehicles, cutting them up at the shop and selling the parts.

Four vehicles were found to be stolen out of Lloydminster, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and Maidstone, Sask.

A 29-year-old Lloydminster resident was arrested and has since been released. Pending charges include four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking stolen property under $5,000.

The individual is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on Aug. 12.
