Legendary Canadian author Margaret Atwood will visit Edmonton in December for her book tour. Audreys Books was added as an extra stop for her memoir, Book of Lives. The downtown indie bookstore will host Atwood on Dec. 13. A release from the store said she was visiting Edmonton “to show her solidarity with libraries and other institutions fighting book bans in Canada and internationally.” The Alberta government became the subject of Atwood’s online criticism when the Edmonton Public School Board first announced it was banning more than 200 books based on provincially-mandated rules. One of her most famous pieces of work, The Handmaid’s Tale, was set to be yanked off school library shelves. Tickets for Atwood’s appearance will be available through Showpass starting early November. A portion of the sales will go toward the Edmonton Public Library.
