A driver who was caught excessive speeding down B.C. highways two years in a row blamed his muscle car for being “too fast,” police say. B.C. Highway Patrol said the man’s “souped-up” Dodge Challenger Hemi R/T was most recently clocked going 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone near Golden on the morning of Oct. 2. He was pulled over and handed a $368 fine for excessive speeding and another $109 fine for having prohibited tinted windows. “The driver of the Dodge Challenger said his car was ‘too fast,’ but our officer pointed out that there are two pedals,” said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin, in a statement. “We’d like to invite all drivers to experiment with using the ‘go fast’ pedal a little less.” Authorities said the driver—a 59-year-old Vernon resident—had the same car impounded for excessive speeding in the Falkland area last summer. B.C. Highway Patrol noted that on top of the fines, the increased high-risk driver insurance premiums the man will be facing over the coming years will bring his total cost to around $2,500. “Arguably, drivers of this age should really know better,” McLaughlin said.
