Man killed in Jasper Avenue hit-and-run

Pedestrian dead after Jasper Avenue crash A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed early Friday morning. Police say the car fled the scene.

Edmonton police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian and did not stay at the scene early Friday morning.

The victim, a 62-year-old man, was struck by an eastbound light-coloured four-door sedan on Jasper Avenue between 114 Street and 115 Street.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

At the time of the crash, he was using a walker and was not in a marked crosswalk, a police officer on scene told CTV News Edmonton at 5 a.m. However, in an update to media shortly before 2 p.m., a police spokesperson said he could not confirm if the man was or wasn't in a marked crosswalk, or if he was crossing illegally.

Jasper Avenue was closed for investigators until about 9 a.m.
