Man dies in e-scooter collision with 2 cars

Police say a 49-year-old man was riding his personal e-scooter near 82 Street and 115 Avenue when he was hit by two cars. He died in hospital on Tuesday.

Edmonton police say a man is dead after an e-scooter collision with two vehicles last month.

A 49-year-old man was going north on his personal e-scooter on 82 Street toward 115 Avenue on Sept. 24. When he turned left on 115 Avenue, the scooter moved back into the northbound lane of 82 Street and was hit by a car, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

The man was knocked off his e-scooter from the impact and was hit by a car going south.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died in hospital on Monday. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, police told CTV News Edmonton.

Riding personal e-scooters is prohibited in the city due to provincial legislation. According to the Traffic Safety Act, private e-scooters or other electric mobile options that use one wheel aren’t allowed.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed or has dash camera footage of the collision to contact police at 780-423-4567.
