Man dead after central Edmonton assault

Edmonton police are investigating after a 68-year-old man was taken to hospital and later died. A man was arrested at the scene and later released.

Police are investigating the death of a man that took place earlier this week in central Edmonton.

Officers responded to reports of an assault during an altercation on Monday around 10:30 a.m. in the area of 93 Street and 116 Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found an injured 68-year-old man. He was taken to hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tuesday, but the cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further testing, say police.

A 48-year-old man known to the deceased was arrested on scene. He has since been released.

Edmonton’s homicide section continues to investigate the death.
