Intense storms across Edmonton resulted in a lightning strike damaging a fire hydrant in the north side of the city. Officials confirmed it was lightning that did damage to a fire hydrant and sidewalk near 129 Street and 129 Avenue this week. Environment Canada told CTV News Edmonton there were 4,000 lightning strikes in Edmonton last Saturday. Epcor crews said they were assessing whether the hydrant required replacement or if the damage was cosmetic, in which case repairs would constitute a coat of paint. By the time CTV News Edmonton caught visuals of the damage on Wednesday afternoon, the fire hydrant had been repaired. Epcor says the city is responsible for the sidewalk.
