Fourth person charged in connection to slaying of Edmonton man

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said a fourth person had been charged in connection to the killing of an Edmonton man, whose remains were found in a burned-out vehicle at the beginning of the year.

RCMP said Wednesday that Max Matthews, 37, was arrested Saturday, April 16 in Edmonton – he’s charged with one count of first-degree murder, and one count of offering an indignity to human remains.

According to RCMP Matthews is the fourth, and final suspect, to be charged in connection to the killing of Junior Morris Laidley, 38.

On January 10, 2016, officers were called to the area of Township Road 572 between Range Roads 201 and 202 in Lamont County, where they found a vehicle damaged by fire, with human remains inside.

Later on, the deceased individual was identified as Laidley – an Edmonton man who had been the subject of a missing person’s case. He was reported missing on January 13, three days after the vehicle was found.

Three other people were charged with first degree murder: Matthew Thiemer, 31, Melvin Pennell, 39, and Christopher Chung, 39. Pennell and Chung were also charged with offering an indignity to human remains.
