More than 1,000 high school athletes gathered on Thursday to compete in the Metro Edmonton High School Track and Field Championships. Athletes, including para athletes, came from 54 Edmonton-area high schools. “For our high school athletes that are competing for gold and provincials, it gives them the opportunity to see how they stack up against Edmonton, and so that they’re prepared for what’s coming later on,” said organizer Michelle Ross. Thursday’s event saw 12 athletes break existing records. The top qualifiers from the championships will move onto provincials in Calgary on June 6 and 7.
