Evacuation order expanded in northern Alberta after wildfire crossed B.C. border

An evacuation order in the County of Grande Prairie was expanded on Monday because of a wildfire burning on both sides of the Alberta-B.C. border.

More people are being asked to leave their homes in northern Alberta due to a wildfire.

The evacuation order in Grande Prairie County No. 1 and Saddle Hills County now includes everyone north of Township Road 700 to Highway 43, east of the Alberta-British Columbia border, to Range Road 130, Alberta Emergency Alert said online.

Residents are asked to leave immediately and go to the reception centre at the Hythe Community Library at 10013 100 St.

Be prepared to be away from home for seven days and bring important documents and medication, Alberta Emergency Alert added.

An evacuation alert was also expanded to everyone north of Township Road 710 to 752, east of Range Road 130 to Range Road 124.

Just before 7 p.m., an evacuation order was issued for everyone between Range Road 95 and Highway 725, as well as Township Road 794 and Township Road 810, including the Moonshine Lake Provincial Park, in the Blue Mountain area.

An evacuation centre has been set up at the Blueberry Mountain Hall at Highway 680 and Range Road 82.
