We could see a number of record highs set across central and southern Alberta today, including in Edmonton. The Feb. 4 record high for Edmonton is 9.4 C from 1991. We should get to about 11 C this afternoon in the city. This would be the third record high of 2026 in the city. Jan. 12 (10.3 C) and Jan. 14 (11.6 C) also set new record highs. Daytime highs will stay well above 0 C in the coming days, but all the record highs for Feb. 5-8 are in the 12 to 14 C range. So...those should be safe. That said, the warm spell will continue... although the warmest temperatures will be behind us after today and tomorrow. Thursday will get to about 9 C under fairly sunny skies. Friday/Saturday should hit the 5 to 8 C range and Sunday will likely end up in the 3 to 6 C range. The upper ridge over the province will weaken later this week and that’s why we’ll be cooling slightly. By Monday/Tuesday, we’re expecting daytime highs around 0 C. But...that won’t be the start of a cool spell. Temperatures will probably bounce back to highs in the 2 to 5 C range for mid to late next week. So...it’s still looking like the warmer-than-average conditions will persist through to about mid-month. There continue to be signs of a cool down somewhere around Feb. 14-16 but it’s unclear just how much colder it might get. Precipitation outlook: Another wave of snow and freezing rain will push across northern Alberta tonight and freezing rain warnings may be issued for some areas (probably Fort McMurray again). All of that precip will stay well to the north of the Edmonton region. In the city - the next-best chance for some precip comes late Sunday night or early Monday (freezing rain or flurries).
