Demolition has begun on the strip mall known as Revolution Square on Stony Plain Road. Heavy equipment was on site tearing down the structure – which used to be two buildings connected by a breezeway – at 151 Street on Monday. It hosted a number of businesses over the years but was closed in 2024 after a flood that destroyed the building’s electrical and HVAC systems. Todd Janes, the executive director of the Stony Plain Road Business Association, said a company bought the property several months ago. “We were sad when the flood happened over two years ago, because it was a real centre for a lot of business and community people in the area. Since that time, we’ve been waiting with anticipation for something new to come in,” Janes told CTV News Edmonton. “We’re also excited, because ironically, we’ve had a lot of construction with West Valley LRT, but this is a different type of construction. This is hopeful renewal construction. It will be transit-oriented residential development and business coming there,” he added. “Our businesses have been tenacious and really doing what they can to stay vital during COVID, during construction, and now this is an opportunity for a new phase for Stony Plain Road and Jasper Place.” The property owner declined to comment.
