Latest details on the 73-year-old pilot who disappeared in homemade plane

A search continues Sunday for David, a 73-year-old pilot who disappeared Friday morning while flying a homemade aircraft.

Durham Regional police say the experienced pilot took off from Oshawa Airport around 8:30 a.m. Friday and was headed north, but never returned.

On Sunday, police tell CTV News David still hasn’t been found.

Investigators say he was expected to return at 9:30 a.m. Friday and was last reported around Balsam Lake.

He was flying a small blue-and-yellow, single-seat, home-built plane with “FOFZ” on the tail.

Police did not release David’s last name, but a media advisory on behalf of the man’s family identified him as David Douglas.

He is described as five-foot-seven with a slim build. He has black and grey hair with a moustache.

Investigators note he typically flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes and north of Lake Scugog.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre is leading the search.
