City of Waterloo officials and senior leaders are heading to Ottawa this week for the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference. The delegation, led by Mayor Dorothy McCabe, will attend the conference from Sunday to Wednesday where municipal officials from across Ontario will meet with provincial decision-makers. Waterloo officials said the conference provides an opportunity to advocate for local priorities and ensure the city’s perspective is considered in provincial decision-making. Among Waterloo’s priorities is securing provincial funding commitments for the proposed new hospital in Waterloo Region. The delegation will also advocate for reliable and consistent provincial funding for municipal infrastructure projects, as well as a municipal fiscal review aimed at creating more sustainable and predictable funding solutions. “Waterloo is a growing, innovative city, and the AMO conference is an important opportunity to ensure our voice is heard on the issues that matter most to our residents,” McCabe said in a news release. “As a city with a unique perspective shaped by education, innovation, tech, and growth, we look forward to advocating for the partnerships and investments needed to support our community today and into the future.” City representatives are expected to take part in meetings and discussions with provincial and Indigenous community representatives, along with officials from municipalities across Ontario.
