‘Death: Life’s Greatest Mystery’ exhibition comes to RAM in early 2026

The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) will be the second Canadian museum to host the travelling exhibition “Death: Life’s Greatest Mystery,” which makes a stop in Alberta in early 2026.

While the exhibition sounds eerie, it offers a unique opportunity to reflect on death as an experience that unites us all.

Created in 2022 by the Field Museum in Chicago, “Death: Life’s Greatest Mystery” is a collection of 100 objects from its anthropology, zoology, geology and botany collections, as well as several replications and interactive experiences.

“The topic of death is personal and complex,” said RAM’s executive director Meaghan Patterson in a press release. “Through ‘Death: Life’s Greatest Mystery,’ the RAM invites Albertans to engage with life’s big questions in a safe and even surprising way.”

The exhibition opens at the RAM on Feb. 26, 2026 and runs until Sept. 7, 2026. No human remains will be featured.
