A cyclist is dead after the driver of a pickup truck hit him on Monday at a major southside intersection. Edmonton police said Tuesday afternoon a man riding his bicycle was turning left onto Gateway Boulevard northbound from 63 Avenue when he was hit by a man driving a one-ton GMC truck travelling west on a green light. The 39-year-old cyclist died in hospital from his injuries. The 60-year-old man driving the truck was not injured. Edmonton police said they are not considering speed nor impairment as factors in the crash. The fatal collision came the same day a man crossing 163 Street at 95 Avenue in a marked crosswalk was hit by a man driving a vehicle. Paramedics took the 40-year-old pedestrian to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 29-year-old driver was uninjured and was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
