Cool start to the week, turning colder late in the week

Temperatures will settle in around the freezing mark for daytime highs the next three days, ahead of a bigger cool down for the end of the week.

More on that in a moment. Just a quick look back at the weekend first.

Saturday hit a high of 10 C and then the howling wind hauled in some cooler air Sunday. Edmonton hit a high of 5 C on Sunday morning and then slid to around 0 C in the afternoon.

Wind gusts maxed out at 85 km/h in the city, YEG airport hit 96 km/h.

Elsewhere: Slave Lake: 102 km,h Vegreville: 107 km/h.

We’ll get some gusts to around 30-40 km/h in the Edmonton area this afternoon.

So...it’ll be a bit breezy, but nothing like Sunday.

No major storm systems blowing through central and northern Alberta today or over the next few days.

But, we’ll see some occasional pockets of snow/flurries.

One of those goes through the Edmonton region tonight and then some evening flurries possible Tuesday/Wednesday.

Colder air drops in with a better chance for some accumulating snow on Thursday. It’s a little too early to take potential snow totals, but a few centimetres is certainly possible.

Daytime highs will slip to the -5 to -8 C range for Thursday-Saturday as a short cold spell sets in.

Looking LONG Range: Temperatures jump back above 0 C for early-to-mid next week.
