More than 300 city high-school students gathered Wednesday for a conference geared toward opening their eyes to how artificial intelligence (AI) shapes the world and its future. The second annual Student AI Conference, held by the Edmonton Public School Board, helps teens learn about real-life applications, discover potential career paths and gain insight into the technology. “Our students are learning that it’s more than just computer science,” Bernice Pui, the chair of the conference, told CTV News Edmonton on Wednesday at the Fantasyland Hotel, site of the conference. “They’re learning that AI is everywhere, and how to best integrate it, make sure it’s safe and responsible.” The conference featured presentations, panel discussions and an exhibition hall in which students could network with more than 30 representatives from post-secondary schools and the AI industry.
