Winnipeg police say a 20-year veteran of the force is facing half a dozen charges after allegedly being caught assaulting a woman. Around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, police got a 911 call about a domestic situation, according to media release from the Winnipeg Police Service. “Upon arrival, officers observed a man assaulting a woman inside a residence,” the release said. The woman received medical attention. The suspect, a 20-year veteran of the Winnipeg Police Service, was taken into custody. The man, whom police said is in his 40s, is facing half a dozen charges, including for choking, suffocating or strangling an intimate partner, sexual assault, and breaking and entering. Authorities said the suspect’s name is not being released to protect the woman’s identity. It said the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified. None of the charges have been proven in court.
