Ballet Edmonton to feature new international choreography in February program

Ballet enthusiasts have been offered the chance to catch a fresh look at new choreography this weekend.

Ballet Edmonton’s February contemporary ballet program, THRESHOLD, will feature works by two international choreographers, Cyril Baldy and Marie Gyselbrecht, for the first time.

“Baldy and Gyselbrecht’s creations explore unexpected limits of the body, new textures of movement, and fresh perceptions of dance through richly layered choreography,” stated by Ballet Edmonton in a news release Wednesday.

The program expects to explore physical and artistic boundaries through bold choreography, sound design and atmospheric lighting.

“THRESHOLD invites us to encounter the unfamiliar both within ourselves and in each other,” said artistic director Kirsten Wicklund. “This program is a catalyst for risk and possibility, offering a powerful portal into the evolving language of contemporary dance.”

THRESHOLD runs from Friday to Sunday 15 at the Triffo Theatre in Allard Hall at MacEwan University.
