Jordan Baker has added a new role to go with his duties as head coach and general manager of Edmonton’s pro basketball team: president. The Edmonton Stingers announced Thursday it had added the duties to the 34-year-old’s plate. The Edmonton native will now guide the operations of the Canadian Elite Basketball League franchise beyond the court. “I am both excited and humbled to become the leader of not just our team but our whole business,” Baker said in a media release. “Edmonton has been such a huge part of my life and to be able to advance my basketball and business career right here at home means the world to me.” Baker – who starred for the Stingers from 2019-22, won two league championships with them in 2020 and ’21, and retired as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer – rejoined the team as head coach in 2023 while serving in the same role at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. In 2024, he added Stingers GM duties, then assumed full-time work with the club following that CEBL campaign while also taking on the role of vice-president of basketball operations and community engagement. The team finished the 2025 season with a 15-9 record, good for third in the Western Conference, before losing to the Calgary Surge in the West playoff play-in game. Baker, a two-sport athlete at Harry Ainlay high school, starred for the University of Alberta from 2009-14, finishing his collegiate career as the Golden Bears’ all-time leader in points, field goals, free throw attempts, rebounds, steals, assists, games started, minutes played, and double-doubles. He joined his parents, basketball stalwarts Doug and Trix Baker, on the school’s sports wall of fame this year.
