Two people were taken to hospital after an overnight stabbing at North Island College in Courtenay, B.C. Comox Valley RCMP were called to a residence on campus shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday after receiving multiple reports of an assault involving what police call an edged weapon. When officers arrived, they found two injured people and arrested a 21-year-old man from Burnaby. The suspect remains in custody pending a court appearance. Police have not released details about what led to the incident. “The investigation remains in its early stages, and officers are working diligently to uncover all of the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident,” Const. Monika Terragni said in a statement. “The motivation behind the assault remains under investigation,” Terragni said. The Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with support from the Island District Forensic Identification Section. Police say there is no information at this point indicating an ongoing threat to the public. Support is being made available to people affected by the incident. RCMP Victim Services is assisting the victims and witnesses, while North Island College is offering support to students and staff.
