Alberta Mountie shoots suspect after being stabbed

Alberta's police watchdog is investigating a crash near Grande Prairie that ended in an officer getting stabbed and shooting a man.

A suspect who stabbed a Mountie was shot by the officer near Grande Prairie, Alta., on Tuesday, according to Alberta RCMP.

Around 2:15 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP received a call about a single-vehicle crash near Township Road 750 and Range Road 51. The caller said the driver had been driving erratically and ran away from the scene.

An altercation and both injuries happened around 3 p.m. when RCMP arrived on scene.

Both are expected to recover.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the Mountie’s use of force, as is Alberta RCMP.
